By remembering the Congress Community Development and Education Unit Ltd in your Will, you will help ensure that our education, training, rehabilitation and aged care programs for Aboriginal and Islander people will continue.
Our ability to support our various programs has been made possible because of the generosity and compassion of those who have left a gift in their will. The establishment of Shalom Christian College is but one example.
Type of gifts
After providing for your family and friends, you may choose to support our work with a gift in your Will. Bequests can be made for the Congress Community Development and Education Unit Ltd general purposes, education, rehabilitation or aged care programs or to a specific appeal being run by the CCDEU Ltd. You can choose which program you want to support.
The gift can take many forms not limited to:
- The residue of the estate;
- A percentage of the estate;
- A specific amount of money;
- A life insurance or superannuation policy;
- Assets such as shares, property, works of art, jewellery etc.;
- An investment in perpetuity.
If you are able to help through a donation in your Will, you may wish to consult your solicitor, Trustee Company or the Public Trustee regarding the wording.
Making a Bequest in three easy steps
Making a bequest is a way in which to give a gift that keeps on giving. It is a very personal way in which to express your desire to see justice and equality in the lives of Aboriginal and Islander people.
If you don't have a Will, you need to contact a legal adviser or your solicitor. If you don't have a solicitor, then you can either contact a Public Trustee in your state or contact us on (07) 4773 5077 and we can provide you with a helpful guide to making a Will.
If you have already a Will you only need to add a codicil which is called - a short legal amendment to your existing Will. Three are three main ways to leave a bequest, but the easiest way it to leave a residuary gift.
A residuary gift means that a percentage or the remainder of you estate can be left to the Congress Community Development and Education Unit Ltd after your family, friends and other beneficiaries are cared for.
Alternatively, you may wish to assign a percentage of your estate or a pecuniary bequest, which would be a fixed amount of your Estate. This can sometimes be more complicated as inflation or other changes in your circumstances may mean you need to recalculate the value of your Estate and the amount you choose to leave to the Congress Community Development and Education Unit Ltd.
It is also possible to specify how your bequest is spent. You may wish your estate to be invested in an area that is of personal interest or a geographic area or sector in which we work.
