Our Vision
"Stagpole Street Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Unit will be recognised by the community as a high quality service, which provides a comprehensive range of therapeutic and culturally appropriate programmes, in a caring and safe environment, which meets the needs of people affected by the impacts of alcohol and drug dependence".
Our purpose is as follows;
- To improve and develop a service that addresses the needs for rehabilitation from the devastating effects of substance abuse i.e. drugs and alcohol;
- To promote SS DARU as a professional therapeutic service whilst maintaining a culturally sensitive and appropriate environment;
- Through community networking information, develop an understanding of the rehabilitation process.

Staff
Clinical team
SS DARU has a multi disciplinary team of professionals. It has developed close working partnerships with numerous local and national government and non government agencies.
Our clinical team consists off a variety of staff - Coordinator, Psychologist, Nurses, Counsellor/Case Managers, Vocational Guidance Officer and a Cultural Links officer. All staff in the team case manage clients, (with the exception of the Coordinator) and participate in the delivery of groups. The psychologist has the major clinical role.
Coordinator
Manages and oversees all service related activities, inclusive of staffing, rosters, financial management of the centre within a specified budget, oversees the team and program activities, advocates for improvements to the service via liaison with the other senior Management staff and the Board and completion for submissions of ongoing and additional funding.
Psychologist
The role of the Psychologist at (SS DARU) aims to address the client's psychological needs within a systemic framework. The duties of the psychologist are:
- Supervision of clinical staff;
- Delivery of Psychological sessions to individual clients;
- Each individual in the centre has at least one session with the Psychologist; this session determines the clients need for further sessions and the content of what these sessions should address. The Psychological methods used within the sessions include Narrative therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Hypnosis, Behavioral therapy and Motivational counseling. The common presenting issues of the Psychological needs of clients are Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Personality Disorders, Mood Disorders, Schizophrenia and Anxiety disorders. - Facilitation of therapeutic groups
Support Staff
Support staff includes the administrator, bus driver, activities officer, manual arts trainer, duty officers/night watchmen, cooks and cleaner. Each of these staff plays an integral role as part of the team, being both multi skilled and flexible in responses to the needs of the service.
